Why Women's Library?

1/5 women are living in poverty
Hitting a 12-year high, about 880,000 women were living in poverty in HK in 2020, that was about 24.2% of all women (more than one in five). Single-family households that are run by women, are among the most at risk.

Low mothers’ participation in the labor market
<25% of the city’s young mothers aged 24 or below are working full or part-time due to limited work opportunities and their childbearing duty. 40 % of the young mothers in Hong Kong has a family income of less than $10K monthly, that is below poverty line.

Social Exclusion & Stigma Faced by Young Mums
There are many negative connotations associated with teenage mothers and sometimes even labeled as “bad mothers” and in both implicit assumptions and explicit claims, they are depicted as “promiscuous, irresponsible, and immoral”
